Stocks slightly fluctuated as crude oil futures rose 3%, causing Brent crude oil futures to rise 2% to over $83 per barrel. AI company, Anthropic reopened discussions with the Pentagon about the use of its AI models after it initially refused to give the U.S military total access to its technology. Defense companies were urged to stop using Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant. Broadcom stocks rose more than 6% in premarket trading after it posted impressive results for its fiscal first quarter and projected the revenue of its custom chip business at over $100 billion in FY 2027.
Stocks for Visa, Mastercard, Block, Affirm, and Klarna were given buy ratings by Bank of America, while PayPal was not favored. JPMorgan raised its price target on Target to $120 from $115, whereas Citi lowered its price target for CrowdStrike to $525 from $610. StubHub’s stocks fell by 15% after its Q4 revenue of $449 million fell short of the expected $484 million. Shares for Grocery Outlet also plummeted after its Q4 results and guidance disappointed investors.
On the brighter side, Trade Desk saw an increase of over 20% in its shares after reports emerged that OpenAI had early talks with Trade Desk about selling ads. The company’s CEO, Jeff Green, purchased about $150 million worth of stocks.
In another news, President Donald Trump appointed Sen. Markwayne Mullin as the Homeland Security Secretary, replacing Kristi Noem. Finally, job numbers for February are due to be released on Friday, and many predict that the figures will show the stability and robustness of the labor market amidst unemployment and recession concerns.
